Trekking around Kalaw

After Mandalay, we flew to Kalaw (Burmese: ကလောမြို့), a hill town in the Shan State of Burma. The town was popular with the British during colonial rule. Kalaw is the main setting of the novel “The Art of Hearing Heartbeats” by Jan-Philipp Sendker.

The hill station is located at an elevation of 1320 metres, 50 km from the Inle lake.

We dropped off our bags in a super pretty bed and breakfast before leaving for a trek.

No, the spider on the next picture doesn’t bite.

Not random at all.

Tea plantations

The following days the mist made for some beautiful landscapes.

We then stopped by a few villages.

Villages around Kalaw

Hard to describe how yummy that avocado was…

That’s it for Kalaw! Next stop: Inle Lake!
